TAILS FROM THE WEEKEND – Worry, Weather & a Win!
The senior sides had a weekend of worry, weather and a win with a third of the season already gone.
The worry was with the 1s, as they fell to their 7th straight defeat. They could do little against their opponents, Bollington, as the best batter in the league, Andrej Yaksander, gave a masterclass in run scoring to secure an 8 wicket win for our guests. The positives for us were that our batting was a lot more solid than in the earlier weeks, and a fine debut by Haris Yassin lifted the spirits. The next four games for the 1s will be season-defining.
The weather impacted the 2s, who made the long trip to Upton, bowled 2 overs, and came back again as the wet ground wiped out any chance of further play. The players all said how much they enjoyed the trip and had nothing but praise for the home team not calling off the game before we travelled…………
The match of the weekend saw our 3s pull off a great win at our neighbours Trafford MV. Being asked to bat first we were indebted to Finn Coburn for a great 67 not out in our total of 133. When MV reached 117-5 in reply, they looked favourites to win, but our young team stuck to the task and with Max Lilley and Adam Heap putting pressure on the home batting, wickets tumbled.
Max took two crucial scalps in the 36th over, leaving Adam to wrap up the win in the following over thanks to a run out before he bowled their last man. The 11 run win was a great effort by the team, showing the growing talent at the close.
