SportAshton on Mersey Cricket Club/Darts

And so the curtain came down last night on the 2026 darts season, with “Wacky Wednesday” bringing the league campaign to a dramatic conclusion.

AOM Darts narrowly won their final match to not only secure Division 1 survival but climb to an excellent 5th place finish. Having spent much of the season occupying one of the bottom two relegation places, a magnificent late-season turnaround saw AOMCC win 5 of their final 6 matches, lifting them from relegation trouble to a comfortable mid-table position. Congratulations to the perennial league champions AMMIES (Wythenshawe Amateur Football Club), who completed a remarkable season with 18 wins from 18 matches. However, they were pushed all the way by runners-up Timperley Conservative Club, who finished with an impressive 16 wins from 18. There was ultimately a 80-point gap between 2nd and 3rd, but from 3rd place down to 9th there was just 30 points separating the teams, highlighting just how tight and competitive the division was. Meanwhile, the final-day drama was all at the wrong end of the table. The Volunteer Pub (Sale) looked nailed on for relegation going into the final day, but produced a crucial 5–2 victory away at Urmston Cricket Club to give themselves a fighting chance. And then came the twist. Victoria Burange defeated Victoria Withington 4-3, meaning that seemingly from nowhere, it was Victoria Withington who slipped into the relegation places on the final night. A dramatic finish to a highly competitive season, and for AOMCC, what looked like a relegation battle for much of the campaign ended with a very respectable 6th-place finish in the top division (of 4 divisions). And so we now go into the various League Comps between now and Christmas. Roll on the 2027 season which should start some time in February.
